A prosthesis is an artificial replacement for a missing body part, such as a crown to replace a missing tooth. An implant supported prosthesis is a type of partial denture that is supported by dental implants rather than natural teeth or gums for stability. The implant-supported denture is held in place by a series of metal posts which are surgically inserted into the jawbone. These posts are then attached to the prosthetic device on the gum line. This results in greater stability and comfort compared to traditional dentures which rest on your gums and can cause irritation.

There are two main types of dental implants, endosteal and subperiosteal. Endosteal implant posts fit into the jaw bone; they’re commonly used to replace individual teeth. Subperiosteal implants are placed on top of the jaw, under the gums. They’re used to secure dentures or other prosthesis to the jawbone.
Both types have specific benefits and disadvantages to consider when choosing an implant-supported prosthesis. Some of the benefits of having a dental implant include better chewing function and improved speech. It’s also easier to clean around a tooth with a restoration than it is around a gap where a tooth used to be. However, the cost of dental implants is usually higher than other options like bridges or dentures. Talk to your dentist to learn more.

**Dental Prosthesis** is a device used by dentists to stabilize patients’ teeth and improve their bite and appearance. Many types of dental treatments can be performed with the use of a dental prosthesis, including replacing a single missing tooth, anchoring a fixed bridge, or holding in a removable denture.
A dental prosthesis is custom-made for every patient, based on impressions taken of the mouth and sent to a lab for creation. Metal clasps are sometimes used to anchor the prosthesis to the nearby natural teeth. Once installed, patients are instructed to care for their prostheses the same way they would care for their own teeth, with regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings and exams at the dental office.
There are many advantages to choosing an implant-supported prosthesis, including both the look and function of the appliance. A dental implant is supported by a titanium screw that fuses with the jawbone and helps to secure and support the prosthetic tooth. This not only gives it a natural look and feel but also prevents the jaw bone from deteriorating over time. Because of this, patients also tend to have an easier time chewing their food. The dental implants provide a strong and stable foundation for the attached teeth as well. This helps to prevent your denture from shifting or slipping during use, which can both be uncomfortable and painful. With implants, these potential problems are completely eliminated.

Implant supported bridges are usually made of porcelain fused to metal or ceramic which fits over the top of a dental implant to replace one missing tooth. They are held in place by placing crowns on the adjacent healthy teeth. This is similar to a traditional bridge, but the tooth replacements are attached to one another instead of resting on top of surrounding teeth. An implant supported bridge is more secure than traditional bridges, making it a popular option among our patients.
